Instahoglets Sunday - The Aftermath Of Katrina
Instahoglets are when Newshog does like Duncan and Glenn and puts out a bunch of punchposts with a line or two of snarky comment. Blogging at its best? You betcha.
Here's some of what I found going on around the web.
Start with this remarkable post from trackback King, Mark In Mexico. Mark is normally wingnuttier than an entire hardware store but here he even sways from his devotion to Bush, saying George's legacy is down the pan, as he includes everyone in a share of the blame.
I'm betting that one of the places that Big Easy mud will stick is at FEMA, where the horselawyer-in-charge got his job on account of being a friend of a friend of George's. The man has a Dan Quayle aura about him.
Yet another place where hard questions will have to be answered is epitomized by this pic of flooded school buses and this post by Poliblog's Dr. Steven Taylor.
And I am certain that outrage over the Bush staged photo-op visit to the disaster area, where each and every sign of aid and assistance diappeared when the cameras moved on, will provoke more and more outrage as time goes on.
One thing the blogosphere seems fairly united on is that Jabbor Gibson should get a medal and maybe even be made head of FEMA - instead he is probably being charged with looting. Looting that saved 100 lives including an 8-day old infant, mind.
Professor Bainbridge probably sees Gibson as a dangerous insurgent who should be taken back to the "combat zone" so he can be shot with the rest of the scary poor people.
They must be scary, these poor people, because when they manage to walk out of the devastation that is NOLA they are being turned back by National Guard troops! Its enough to make even a FOX News reporter break ranks.
With emergency shelters like the Astrodome already full, what's going to happen when the tens of thousands of richer people who have been staying in hotels in Texas and elsewhere run out of money for rooms and for gas to move on to a shelter? Is anyone planning for it? If not, why not? Expect this to be one of the next big outcries.
Finally (for now) as the death toll is expected to be in the thousands - perhaps as many as one in ten of those "left behind" - the country seems evenly split on whether Bush should bear the blame although that's a big drop from his 91% approval rating after 9/11. Steve Gilliard waxes eloquent on behalf of those who feel the kool-aid days are over, in an outraged rant that is sure to become the standard by which all subsequent outraged rants are measured.
