I personally think it would be fascinating to have Ron Paul and Mike Gravel conduct some one on one debates and I bet it would generate more press than either has had of late.

Best idea of the week

Ron Paul - The Blimp
By LibbyI just picked this up from Hot Air, where Allahpundit is mocking the move, but I love the idea. Ron Paul launched a campaign blimp today. Unfortunately, although I'm nominally on the flight path, I haven't seen it and short of standing outside all day, it would take a huge stroke of luck to get a glimpse since blimps are so silent.
I may have to rethink my position on Ron Paul. Regular readers know how much I want a ride on one of those flying footballs. Maybe I could volunteer to be on the crew and finally realize that dream. It's looks like the gondola is large enough to hold passengers.
Meanwhile, I'll be tracking its flight path at the official website. Too cool.
Update by Cernig Then in the entirely non-blimpish direction there is the newly unveiled Hotties4RonPaul.com Calendar. I kid you not.
Next up, Hotties4Fred (all ex-girlfriends), Hotties4Rudy (all ex-wives) and Hotties4Hucka-Romney (all in period Puritan dress).

Nostalgia and Ron Paul's core constituency
by shamanic
After EarthLink laid me off in September, I set about to transition into doing what I've always done on a volunteer basis for people: freelance writing, graphic design, and the like. I use several online freelance brokers to seek clients and bid for projects, and the other day I saw a posting for a book project on freedom and the constitution.
The person was seeking a ghostwriter, and as he or she described the project, I realized that it wasn't just Democrats who were marginalized and embittered in this decade. It was also that element of the extreme right wing that (metaphorically, ideologically) lives in the mountains of Idaho, home schooling their kids. People who love guns. People who believe there's a government agent behind every shrub on their property. The Black Helicopter crowd.
In the 90's (my late teens and early 20s), I was fascinated by these types, but I guess I thought they had either come in from the cold or -- somehow -- bought into the power dynamic. After all, America is abroad, kicking ass, so maybe they had some Faustian bargain to chill out as long as "the right people" were running the show into the ground.
And then along came Ron Paul. Clearly this group has *not* gone away. I love it! I became a Democrat in the aftermath of the 1994 election, but continued to have a lot of sympathy for those people who believe so stridently in small government that they're well armed in the event they should have to shrink it themselves.
That's Ron Paul's constituency. I really thought they had perished from this land. Welcome back, peeps. You're batshit crazy, totally obsessed, more important than ever (for sure), and I love you!

Ron Paul raises serious dough in one day
By Libby
Just wow. Say what you will about the candidate and his supporters, they put their money where his mouth is. One of his supporters started a fund drive to raise $10 million in 24 hours.
In the time it took to me to type the current numbers, it went up about another 500 bucks to $5,365,856.20. In the time it took me to type this post, it went up again to $5,374,748.76. Pretty incredible.

Paul tracks his donations in real time on his web site. The clock started ticking at midnight when current donations were listed at $2,773,017.02. At the time of this posting — eight hours into the 24 hour effort — he had raised more than $1 million for a total of $3,805,615. In the time it took to write this post, he raised more than $30,000. The campaign has set a $12 million fundraising goal for the fourth quarter, which ends Dec. 31.

Colbert is in!
by shamanic
You thought Ron Paul has excessively passionate fans? Oh, just wait! Stephen Colbert jumped into the race last night, and I'm sure that the Colbert Nation fanboys are up to their eyeballs in Technorati searches this afternoon.
The biggest difference between the Paul and Colbert evangelists? Colbert's fans know their guy's candidacy is a joke. Oh, ouch! I'll be here all week, ladies and germs. Try the veal!
