George Bush's Week in Review

by shamanic

In the mind of George W. Bush, the first week of April will likely be remembered as one that felt like old times. After all, the White House was able to angrily denounce a domestic political opponent with the full backing of the smear machine, even getting CNN's White House correspondent to the party. Suzanne Malveaux described Pelosi's trip as "a big wet kiss to President al-Assad" during an episode of The Situation Room.

(If you need a pitch-perfect takedown of Right Blogistan's coverage of Pelosi's trip, Ed Brayton's got you covered like a head scarf at Dispatches from the Culture Wars.)

It must have felt good for this White House to do what it does best: smear the people who are capable of doing the jobs it should be doing. After all, they've been so sidetracked with a failing war strategy, repudiation by the American public in November's election, both houses of congress giving pushback on Iraq timelines, and scandal after scandal after scandal that this kind of bullshit posturing--with a recess appointment to boot--must have felt like spring break for the fratboy president.

So happy Easter, George. I know you love nothing more than to dig in your heels when there's a fight to be had. Rest up, because as all the papers note (with amazing frequency), you've got 22 months left to annoy the public with your nonsensical government. Better squeeze in all you can.
