I was planning a long post which would tie the recent hard-realist article by right-of-center historian Niall Ferguson in the New York Times to today's Guardian story on the Iraqi insurgency, US troop numbers and training of Iraqi security forces. Both are pessimistic about any short-term relief or even the prospect of a US win.
However, my UPC colleague Fester has already done one of his usual excellent analyses, "Robbing Peter to Redeploy Paul" and the UPC's examination of the growing crisis continues in comments.
