Terrorist Doubletalk

Mr Bush, will you please stop your policy of appeasement and start treating terrorists like terrorists?

This from Reuters:

Outraged by an IRA offer to shoot a group of suspected murderers, Britain and the United States said Wednesday the guerrilla group must disband and called on its political ally Sinn Fein to renounce criminality.

Good call, after murdering some poor s.o.b., intimidating witnesses and now offering to take matters into their own hands - not to mention the little matter of a $50 million bank robbery - I have to agree with Bush's special envoy to Northern Ireland, Mitchell Reiss, who told the BBC:

It's time for Sinn Fein to be able to say explicitly, without ambiguity, without ambivalence, that criminality will not be tolerated...You can't sign up for the rule of law a la carte

However, as my good friend Harkonnendog has pointed out in an outraged post, Sinn Fein, the IRA's political mouthpiece, can still legally solicit donations in the US. That makes Reiss words ring hollow. As St. Patrick's Day approaches, how many will drop money in a bucket which will go to fund terrorism in the country which is "America's staunchest ally"? How many businesses ran by those of Irish descent also make contributions thinking they are helping the "auld country"? It should be stopped, clearly and unequivocally.

Put America's lack of money where your mouth is, Mr. Bush.
