Calling Confederate Yankee

By Libby

Mr. Owen, call in your debunking team. We've discovered another egregious use of a fake photo to promote a political point of view. Time to man the phones and track down the perpetrator of this outrageous fraud and demand atonement. Worse yet, they're trying to fool Congress and our troops with this baldfaced misrepresentation.

And who is this vile low-life that would so mislead the public you ask? Good news. He'll be easy to track down. It's David Horowitz who used the photo to promote Islamo-Hate Week at his influential FrontPageMag. The press release reads, “The photo accompanying this article, which shows a teenage girl buried before being stoned to death for alleged sexual offenses, will serve as the poster for the protest Week. The stoning took place in Iran.”

Oopsie.
This photo turns up all over the right-wing media, but the ’stoning’ actually takes place in a 1994 Dutch indie film called De Steen, directed by Mahnaz Tamizi. The ‘teenage girl’ is actress Smadar Monsinos.
We're counting on you Bob to uphold truth in citizen journalism. Time to boldly condemn this wilful deceit. Bob? Anybody seen Bob? I didn't think so.
