A new variation of the "Clinton Did It" dodge

by shamanic

This is amazing! Mark Levin appears to be arguing that Gonzales should stay because... Janet Reno wasn't so good either!! Yeah, that's a recipe for restoring integrity to the White House.

Consider this a documented variation of the "Clinton Did It" dodge, which is really the ultimate expression of a politics that races to the bottom. The other guys are bad, this politics says, so we don't have to even try to be good.

This should be criticized in every instance, and Levin should recognize that he's advocating not a strong response to opposition, but shoddy governance.

Update: Nico at Think Progress grabs some similar commentary from Rush Limbaugh, so I guess this is actually just the latest talking points from RNC command. The text probably says something along these lines: "We'll demoralize our base if we cave to liberals, and without our base, we can't possibly get away with being this batshit crazy."

I love Nico's inclusion of the quote stating that the 72% of Americans who want to find out what happened with the US Attorney system under George W. are "blithering idiots". Once again, the problem for movement conservatives is that too many damn Americans care.
