Cut Adrift?

I read a lot of news-sites and blogs, from all points of the political compass, and sometimes I have to back up and find something that niggles. This is one of those.

Below a photo of a man up to his shoulders in water and towing a boat, in the sidebar of a page on the Albuquerque Tribune site, I saw:

A man who would identify himself only as Wes tells a rescuer he is fine but needs to check on friends and animals as he pushes a boat along Canal Street north of Interstate 10 in New Orleans. Law enforcement officers have begun cutting loose boats they find tied up, many of which are being used by looters.

Now hang on a sec. OK, they want to get people out of the city but cutting boats adrift that may be being used by people who are looking after kids, sick or elderly folks trapped through no fault of their own? Because some boats are used by looters?

Something tells me the authoritarians have run amuck.

Tonight, I fully expect the local San Antonian law enforcement community to go around towing away cars at random, preferably from hospitals and care homes, because some cars are known to have been used in robberies. No? I thought not.
