I didn't pay all that much attention to this race, but it can't be a good omen for the GOP that the Foster beat Oberweis by a decent margin in the special election to replace former speaker Denny Hastert. While I agree with my friend Michael Stickings that we shouldn't read too much into this, it is at least a huge psychological blow to the GOP to have lost what should have been a solidly safe Republican seat. Particularly since McCain stumped for Oberweis.
As for Foster, I've seen some buzz around the blogs this morning that he could turn out to be another Blue Dog, but at least he was campaigning on the right promises, most importantly ending the occupation and blocking telecom immunity. It will be up to us to make sure he honors them.
