Friedman forsakes 9/11 mentality

I don't know what happened. Maybe Colbert spiked his water with truth serum during his recent appearance on the show, but I read this op-ed and thought -- who is this guy and what did he do with the real Thomas Friedman? You really must read the whole thing but here's the money quotes.

What does that mean? This: 9/11 has made us stupid. I honor, and weep for, all those murdered on that day. But our reaction to 9/11 — mine included — has knocked America completely out of balance, and it is time to get things right again.

...I’d love to see us salvage something decent in Iraq that might help tilt the Middle East onto a more progressive pathway. That was and is necessary to improve our security. But sometimes the necessary is impossible — and we just can’t keep chasing that rainbow this way.

Needless to say the deadenders of the Righty Rage Corps are not taking it well. Methinks Mr. Friedman will be discovering the true "civility of the right" and it won't be pretty.

But not to worry. Us "unserious" sorts are a forgiving lot. The left's door is always open to those who want to step out of the darkness, into the light. Welcome to the reality-based community Mr. Friedman. I hope you plan to stick around for a while.

Update: Okay, some of us are more forgiving than others.
