Some very significant news on Pakistan. Benazir Bhutto and sources close to President Musharaff are saying the two have hammered out a deal whereby Musharaff will drop plans to stay on as both president and head of the Army. Musharaff would take off his uniform and drop all corruption charges against Bhutto, as well as clearing the constitutional path for her to take a third term as PM.
Musharaff hasn't said anything public as yet, and even if it's true it remains to be seen what the army will say, but this is very encouraging news for Pakistani democracy. Here in the US, the neocons will either hate it or will try to spin it as being their idea and Bush's plan all along (it wasn't).
