NE Republicans. Why, exactly?

by shamanic

The brother of a 9/11 pilot whose plane was hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center has announced that he'll be running to replace Rep. Martin Meehan of Massachusetts. Soon-to-be-retired Air Force Lt. Col. James Ogonowski, running as a Republican, describes himself as a fiscal conservative and social moderate, meaning he probably doesn't want to arrest women for having abortions or amend the constitution to prove how much he hates gays.

Of all the Republicans considering the race (Meehan is retiring), Ogonowski probably has the best shot because of his biography, but I'm not sure I understand why a voter in Massachusetts would cast a ballot for a candidate of the minority party, with minority positions within the party.

Then again, he could always pull a Romney and go to Washington to attack his state. That'd be classy.
