Doolittle Raid Results

Via TPMMuckraker, the AP is reporting that Rep. John Doolittle is temporarily giving up his seat on the powerful Appropriations Committee. The cause of this removal is the FBI raid on his house due to his connections with convicted felons Jack Abramoff accused briber Brent Wilkes and the strong potential that he is in deep doo-doo.

Roll Call is reporting that House Republican leadership would have made him give up this seat if he did not do so voluntarily. I have to applaud the House Republican leadership for their desire to demonstrate credibility on the issue of public corruption. Probable self-dealing and insider corruption should be a non-partisan no-brainer and after the DeLay era, it is nice to see that this assumption has a chance to be true.
