Vladimir Putin, incensed at US attempts to park missile defenses in his backyard and then claim they won't effect Russia, has announced that Russia will pull out of the Conventional Forces in Europe (CFE) pact if the US doesn't live up to its part of the treaty - which Russia says is broken by the planned missile defense sites.
Condi Rice had this to say:
These are treaty obligations and everyone is expected to live up to treaty obligations," Rice told a news briefing in Oslo before foreign ministers met their Russian counterpart.Since Rice is widely touted as being an expert on Russia in particular, she has to be aware of the screaming hypocrisy in that statement.
I have no doubt that she recalls December 2001 very well indeed.
US President George W Bush has officially announced that the US will withdraw from the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile treaty with Russia.Condi obviously believes that "everyone is expected to live up to treaty obligations" except for her work-husband.
"I have concluded the ABM treaty hinders our government's ability to develop ways to protect our people from future terrorist or rogue-state missile attacks," Mr Bush announced following a meeting with his National Security Council.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the move was not unexpected but that he considered it a "mistake".
