Gallows Pole

On the day that Saddam has his appeal against his death sentence turned down - which means he may well be executed within 30 days - and the number of U.S. servicemen killed in Iraq now matches the number of dead from a terror attack that had nothing to do with the condemned dictator...

...Bush has retreated to his Texas ranch to contemplate the "success" of his misadventure accomplished.

Let us all hope that he spends more time contemplating these deaths and the deaths of tens of thousands of Iraqis than he used to spend contemplating appeals against death sentences as the governor of Texas. Back then, thirty minutes and a three-page memo from Alberto Gonzales was your lot.

But somehow, being a cynic, I've a feeling he will spend far more time contemplating his own ass and how to cover it.
