Negroponte - Iran Years Away From Nuke

John Negroponte says that Iran is still years away from potentially developing a nuclear weapon. At the very least it will be next decade.

Not that it matters, which is why Negroponte can say this. Supporters of Bush's administration will develop extreme word blindness when confronted with his admission and he knows it.

Iran will still be years away from developing a nuke on the day Bush invades. Why? Because Iran isn't trying to develop a nuke.

The name of the game is regime change - and for that what is important is that President Ahminutjob wins re-election in 2009. The worst case scenario for BushCo is that a moderate, which the ayatollahs would prefer, wins instead. It would make the process of demonisation and fearmongering a wee bit harder.

Hardline enemies demand a hardline answer - that's the common psychology and one that has done sterling service for the American Right in it's own political campaigning. So expect the rightwing noise machine in the US to keep piling on the exagerations, fear and outright lies. That's a surefire way to drive the Iranian electorate, an electorate always aware of the way the US wind blows, into the arms of the current Iranian President's re-election campaign.
