Saudi Nukes?

Oh Mama!

A German magazine has a report that Saudi Arabia is planning to buy an off-the-shelf nuclear strike capability from the Pakistanis ans that dozens of Saudi and Pakistani nuke scientists have been clandestinely worling in each other's countries to accomplish this. It also says there is already a secret underground complex south of Riyadh with dozens of missile silos - and that those silos may already contain "long-range Ghauri-type missiles of Pakistani-origin".

The sources for this report are largely anonymous "Western security sources". However the primary source may well be Udo Ulfkotte, the German private security consultant who alleged that CIA Director Porter Goss visited Turkey back in December to ask for support for a possibile 2006 air strike against Iranian nuclear and military facilities.

Then again, he also says Glenn Miller died in a French brothel.

However, if it is true then it presents a major foreign policy quandary for the Bush administration (and it's pet blogging sycophants). Do they treat Saudi Arabia as a turncoat false ally and send it down the Iraq/Iran path - after all, it's ties to 9/11 and Al Qaida are a sight clearer than Saddam's - or do they belittle the possibilities by pointing out that the House of Saud is a strongman (bully) regime and America is safe for as long as the bullies hold power - thus showing the "freedom for the Middle East" stuff as the sham it always was?
