Kerry Calls For Rumsfeld To Go

According to Raw Story, John Kerry has made a statement calling on Prezi-didn't Bush to replace Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld. Kerry's statement says:

Secretary Rumsfeld today sent dangerous mixed signals about Iraq. Does the Defense Secretary really just throw up his hands and accept that on-going terrorist attacks are inevitable in Iraq for the foreseeable future? Is he now admitting that the Bush Administration's mistakes have made Iraq what it was not before the war, a haven for terrorists?

The President owes it to our troops serving in Iraq to remove Secretary Rumsfeld and replace him at the Pentagon with a Defense Secretary who understands the situation on the ground in Iraq and who will advance, not undermine, American values around the world.

Brave American troops are serving heroically under very difficult circumstances. Time and again, they have been put in greater danger by the mistakes of this Secretary of Defense who refuses to tell the truth about what is happening in Iraq and pushes aside anyone who dares speak truth to power. The mistakes are stacked one upon another. The Pentagon is reported to be paying Iraqi newspapers to carry ghostwritten news stories, undermining American credibility. The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff had to publicly correct Secretary Rumsfeld because he didn't think American troops had an obligation to stop torture.

We need a fresh start at the Pentagon for the good of American troops, so brave Americans stop paying the terrible price of this Defense Secretary's mistakes.

My own first thought was that Kerry never ever does anything courageous politically. He's a fence-sitter who only climbs down when he thinks he has divined which side is greener. Take for example his calling for a reduction in troop numbers in Iraq for January when he knew that there were already plans to do just that through normal troop rotation.

So I am guessing he has heard something on the wind - namely that Rummie's days are already numbered.

If he isn't just following what he thinks will happen anyway then where was he a year and more ago during the body-armor, humvee and other debacles, when it was obvious to anyone with more than two brain cells that Rumsfeld was an uncaring, incompetent sociopath who should be fired forthwith? And why isn't he noting that Rummie is Bush's man to the core, following the Stratergy that Bush just personally endorsed not more than a week ago?

Raw story notes that rumors are rife that Democrat Senator Joe Leiberman might be named as Rumsfeld's replacement. I cannot think of a worse choice. Lieberman is so dumb that he can tour Iraq, courtesy of the military, and not have the brights to look further than the nose he is being led by.

But at least, if Lieberman is appointed, can someone convince him to quit the Democrat Party first? Or someone find a way to kick him out? The last thing anyone should be handing George right now is a veneer of bi-partisan approval for his incompetent war.
