The Guardian reports today on a new study by the Iraq Body Count project and the Oxford Research Group. The study used media reports, information from mortuary officials and on-the-ground research projects to estimate the number of Iraqi civilians killed in the two years since March 2003.
The figure of 24,865 dead is pretty uncontroversial, being broadly in line with other sensible estimates. However what is shocking is the cause of death estimates:
36% criminal activities.
37% US and coalition military forces.
9% anti-occupation forces and insurgents.
