The OpTruth Trip To Congress

I just received an email from Paul Rieckhoff, founder of Operation Truth, the group for veterans of the war in Iraq. I would like to share it with you.

Dear Operation Truth Supporter,

Thank you for helping us send our Veterans to Washington DC last week!

Our trip was a great success that would not have been possible without our online army of Operation Truth supporters, who raised $10,000 to fund our effort. Iraq veterans Herold Noel, Robert Acosta, Abbie Pickett, Perry Jefferies, and Ben Flanders joined me for three days in Washington, D.C., demanding action from prominent lawmakers, including key members of the Veterans Affairs and Armed Services Committtees.

This is a historic first step. This is the first time an organized group of Iraq veterans has met with Congress. We met with many prominent Senators and Representatives, including Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE), Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY), Rep. Steve Buyer (R-IN), Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-RI), and Rep. Brian Baird (D-WA), as well as the military and legislative liaisons for more than a dozen other lawmakers. We made some great allies in our battle to improve treatment for PTSD, we informed top lawmakers about problems with recruitment and retention, and we made crucial contacts for future action on a wide variety of troops' issues, from Stop Loss to the underfunded VA.

Keep an eye on our site for the most recent updates on our legislative action campaign. And thanks again for your support. We couldn't do any of this without you.

Sincerely,

Paul Rieckhoff

Thanks for the mail, Paul. It is always a pleasure to support OpTruth's great work.
