Texas Politics - SNAFU

Via Betapundit, this should be a warning to the rest of the country.

Down here in Texas, politics have been pretty much the Republican's stomping ground since the Ark, it seems. Certainly, no-one really remembers that the Governor only got ahead in politics when he switched from the Democrats to the GOP.

So what do you argue about when your only viable challenger is another Republican?

Who is most buddy-buddy with Hilary Clinton, of course!

Even though Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison hasn't yet announced whether or not she will be challenging incumbent Rick Perry in 2006, Perry's team are getting the low punches in early. Last week, Perry's campaign circulated a video that showed the conservative senator speaking kindly of Clinton.

The videotape, made by two men working for Perry's campaign, showed Clinton with Hutchison at a recent event at a museum devoted to women's history in Washington. It played up a brief hug and air kiss between the women and featured Clinton saying she is "delighted that Kay is my partner on so many fronts."

"We're being very aggressive in everything we do," Perry campaign director Luis Saenz said last week. "And you ain't seen nothing yet."

But the good Senator has hit back, with a copy of a 1993 letter in which Perry spoke nicely about Hilary Clinton's proposed healthcare reforms. "I think your efforts in trying to reform the nation's health care system are most commendable," Perry said of plans that his GOP colleagues described at the time as "socialist".

So there you have it. If the Republican party have no-one else to fight, they will use their dirty tricks on each other. This is the party we should trust with our children's futures? Don't make me laugh.
