Blogabout #5

What happened to Friday's blogabout? Here it is...late. Don't ask.

  • "theory of Power" blog says China is setting up an Axis of Example in South America as a direct challenge to US hegemony.

  • Riverbend, blogging from Baghdad, is worried about anr Islamic republic, with few rights for women, arising from the recent Iraqi elections, and sees signs already.

  • Scott at Blue State Project says "Blue America is strong economically and culturally, but extremely weak geographically- and is therefore vulnerable to the political predations of the right."

  • Noted SF author Charles Stross shows why his books are always such good reads, as he takes a humourous wander from copyright infringement, via Ayn Rand, to a shadowy conspiracy to rule the world.

  • Class War Notes has something on the Bush administration's true support for the troops - describing funding for programs like veterans’ education and job training, health care, pensions, VA housing and the like as "hurtful" to national security.

  • Dyskeptic notes that a bill called the REAL ID Act would make driver's Licenses useless as ID, and asks who will pay for the replacements.

  • Paul Musgrove says readers of blogs want provocation not insight and that "Blog readers do not want to learn about novel ideas; they seek to rehearse tired debates." Does that mean Newshog is getting it all wrong?

  • Over at "Political Strategy", Drew is shocked by Stanley Kurtz writing in "Policy Review", who seems to think the problem with America is women aren't pregnant enough.

  • A MUST READ: The Blur Belt adds some poignant human interest to a story we have covered at Newshog - more than half of bankruptcies in the US are due to huge medical bills.

  • Try out your knowledge of Social Justice with Information Clearing House' 20 questions quiz. Scary.

  • Thanks to my lovely wife, Magik, for providing many of the links.
