When John Kerry eventually got around to voting against the $87 billion dollar funding for the Iraq war, the right hit the roof. John Kerry doesn't support our troops. John Kerry is playing politics with our soldier's safety.
When Bill Clinton cut budgeting for the military back in the nineties, all you heard from the neocon punditry was that Clinton was crippling our military. Even now military members curse his name for how much he weakened the armed forces.
So, someone tell me where I can go to catch all the uproar from the left about a Republican Senator who is telling the Department of Homeland Security that he might as well not even ask for more money.
I mean, the possibilities are endless. "The Right doesn't care about the safety of our citizens." "We'll spend billions of dollars on the security of Iraqi's, but not one red cent to the homeland." Come on!
Here's kind of the problem with Democrats, they're a little too nice. During the National Convention, you remember how the theme was not, "attack Bush," but more along the lines of, "we'll at least we're nice guys?"
Granted, the whole thing is justified. Sure, the DHS needs to learn a little bit about accounting, and discipline, but isn't that the reason why the $87 Billion dollars got shot down by Kerry? Because of irresponsible accounting in the write up? Isn't the reason why Clinton "gutted" the military because there were just some things we didn't need anymore now that the cold war was over?
You could bet your ass that if the roles were reversed, tomorrow Rush Limbaugh would be berating the democratic senator. But because it's a Republican did it,don't hold your breath.

After reading the story I am appalled. To say there won't be money available for homeland security nearly the same day Bush asked for $80 billion for war efforts make me ill.
I have to ask "What are the priorities of this administration?” I can speculate the normal liberal theories, but I don't really believe them.
If there are any republicans who want to answer that question, I will be looking for that response.
Thanks.

I'll give you my theory.
In my heart of hearts, I truly believe that most republicans believe in fiscal conservatism. They really do want a balanced checkbook, if for no other reason than because they don't want taxes. So I think when it comes down to it, a straight up repub is going to seriously look at the spending practices of an organization, and tell them to make do with what they got.
When it comes to the war, I think that just gets a little past them. There is a constituency that is all pro war, and to be a card carrying repub, you have to be for it.
