Instahoglets

There's a bunch of stuff I want to say more about but time is the enemy of good intentions. So I will do it the lazy way and copy Instapundit's push-posts.

  • Winds of Change says the Republican slime-machine is getting geared up to turn it's attentions on Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald. In probably related news (via Fat Karl) Joe Biden has discovered that John Bolton lied to Congress on an official form during the Senate confirmation process. Like that's a surprise.

  • The IRA has made a historic statement renouncing violence. Rightwing Unionist politicians are being vocally sceptical while blithely ignoring the fact that their own armed factions are still shooting - at each other. Typical.

Also, much as many rightwingers in the US would like to think the IRA statement is a reaction to the London Bombings and so can be put down as a victory in Bush's GWOT, the history behind the declaration shows that isn't the case. I swear, if the Romulans offered to extend the neutral zone in the next Star Trek movie, the Right would try to claim the credit for Bush.

  • The top US General in Iraq says that the US-led coalition could start withdrawing troops early next year if political progress remained on track and the insurgency did not escalate. Rightwing mil-blogger Blackfive thinks the idea is "pretty @#$%ing crazy" as do his commenters. The Right are always telling us to listen to the milbloggers.

  • "Senate Republican leaders pulled the plug on the defense bill yesterday, rather than face a host of votes on base closings, veterans benefits and the administration's detainee policy that could have embarrassed President Bush". So says the Washington Times in an amazing admission from this Republican-friendly newspaper. The Republicans put down the $447 billion bill in the middle of a war and moved on to a special-interest gun-liability bill. That's how you support the troops and veterans, is it?

  • Jeff Gillenkirk of Leftwing blog "Dirty Tricks" says he is joining the Republicans!

  • The Afghan head of counter-terrorism says that the Pakistani military and intelligence agency are training and equipping Al Qaida and Taliban fighters while lying about it to the West. After President Musarraf's outrageous claim on Monday that Pakistan had destroyed Al Qaida on it's soil, there's not a lot of surpride value in this report. The real surprise is why more on the Right who claim to be hot on the GWOT aren't clamoring for Bush to stop selling the liar advanced weaponry!

There. That's a whole bunch of long-winded stuff I don't have to write now. Don't you feel better? I do.
